EXCERPT:
I held my breath for a beat and tilted my head to press my lips against his. Our mouths parted, fitting softly together at first, until he kissed me harder.
He tasted so good, my body pushed closer. Our lips knew each other. I moved on top of his lap, my legs on either side. His warmth, his crisp citrus scent. This was what kissing someone should feel like.
Hormones, pheromones, love, whatever it was, washed over me. I needed this man. I wanted to feel this way every hour of every single day.
My hand found its way up the back of his shirt. His skin ran hot. The ocean roared. I heard voices talking low, a couple walking by us.
His hand pressed into the small of my back. His other hand grabbed at the nape of my neck. He whispered, “I love you, Hope.”
I froze. He tried to kiss to me again. He couldn’t, not with my lower lip firmly entrenched in my teeth. I bit down with such force, I worried I’d draw blood. Why was he doing this to me? Why was I allowing it to happen?
His amber-green eyes looked into mine.
Tears pooled against my lashes.
“I wish you could feel what I’m feeling,” he said, “so you’d know it’s true.”

TV Review: The Legend of Korra Book Four: Balance

Title: The Legend of Korra (Book Four: Balance)
Rating: 9/10 Stars
IMDB Summary: Avatar Korra fights to keep Republic City safe from the evil forces of both the physical and spiritual worlds.
Review: Avatar Korra is missing. While she is on a journey of self discovery and healing, far from her friends, they are trying to stop the Great Uniter, Kuvira from waging war on Republic City. Will Korra arrive when she is needed, or will the Avatar disappear and become nothing more than a forgotten myth?

This season is definitely my favourite, hands down. Korra must live through her nightmares and face her worst fears in order to become stronger. The story in these episodes is really powerful and everyone can learn from them. Kuvira may be another major enemy of the Avatar, but she is different in that it is much easier for viewers to see how her actions come from wanting to do good, unlike the villains of previous seasons.

Minor plots are also valuable, I especially like how Prince Wu starts off as a worthless character who Mako sees as a spoilt brat, but later reality sets in and he actually becomes a decent character. Zaheer only really appears in Korra's imagination but I believe that this season did him justice, showing that villains are evil but they have humanity in them, and not all of their actions come from bad intentions.

Toph's appearance in this season definitely made me happy. All the characters in Book Four: Balance have such an impact it's crazy. Korra strengthens her character and is finally able to pass the test after many failed attempts at returning to her full strength. Book Four: Balance covers strengths, weaknesses, and how one girl learns to use these to become the best of herself.

Picture this is the third book in the Birds of a Feather series, a young adult/coming of age series with paranormal elements, full of laughter, mystery, and romance.

Excerpt: I found the ledge, and it was barely wide enough for my toes so I couldn’t stand on it for long. The arm holding me up started to burn, and I looked around frantically for somewhere to go.
“Snow,” my bird said. “Big rock. Have to jump, one arm’s length to the right, one head up.”

I looked and thought I saw the outline of the overhang she was talking about. The rock had hit my shoulder, but the numbness had subsided, and I clenched the hand a few times. It seemed to be working. Then my left foot slipped, and for a few seconds, I thought I’d fall, but I managed to hold on and find the ledge with both my feet again.

“Almost there,” Nick said.

Was he crazy? He was coming up right underneath me, something that was against all common sense.
“Get out of the way, Nick,” I repeated. “If I fall I’ll crash right into you.”

He didn’t stop, and my body was screaming at me to do something, so I made up my mind. Then I made sure my safety rope was loose enough, bent my knees as much as I could, tightened all my muscles, and jumped straight into the darkness.

My hands gripped the overhang firmly, and I held on.

“Twist legs right. Another rock,” the osprey said calmly.

I did, and felt my knee hit a rock, bent the leg upward and over it, and heaved myself up over the edge.

“I’m secure,” I called out to Nick and was met with a resounding silence. “Nicky?” I shouted.
He couldn’t have fallen because I would have heard, so why wasn’t he answering?

“Good,” he suddenly rumbled out of nowhere. “Is there an anchor there somewhere?”

My hands slid along the cold, hard rock and found another rusty piece of metal. I yanked it a few times, and it seemed to be safe, so I secured my rope to it.

“Yeah,” I said. “Do you want my rope?

“Yeah,” he echoed.

The overhang was big enough for both of us to sit on. I leaned my back against the mountainside and tilted my head a little to nudge his broad shoulder.

“That was fun,” I murmured.

He snorted out something unintelligible, and I giggled. It wasn’t my fake giggle, it was a real one, from happiness and adrenaline.
About the Author

The proper way to put it here would probably be to describe how I love to play with our two big dogs, adore my fantastic daughters and how much I love to read.

Another way would be to use my imagination and then I would be a super powerful warrior woman, think Xena the warrior princess (though with less tacky clothes). Or when I think of it, maybe I’m actually more of a Hercule Poirot (sans the suit and moustache). Or maybe I’m like Aragorn, strong and cool and then I might get to meet Gandalf! Or I could be Bella’s pretty cousin and snap Jacob up in a second (yeah, I’m so not team Edward), or wait, maybe I could be like one of them heroines in historical novels who swoon all the time. I’ve always wanted to swoon…

Well, I guess you get how my mind is working (or not working, some say).
Anyways, I like to write. Stories, adventures, romantic and happy stuff mixed up with sorrow and hardship, and bit of laughter here and there because the way I see it – life is way too short to go around feeling grumpy.

Book Blitz: The Night Realm (Excerpt + Giveaway)

The Night Realm
Annette Marie
(Spell Weaver #1)
Published by: Dark Owl Fantasy Inc.
Publication date: October 20th 2017
Genres: Adult, Urban Fantasy
Clio would love nothing more than to go home. But as the illegitimate daughter of the nymph king, she’s stuck in the human world, exiled until she can earn a place in the royal family. Then her half-bother offers her a chance to prove herself. All she has to do is acquire some magic … by stealing it from the most dangerous spell weavers in the Underworld.
Lyre prefers to go unnoticed, which is a tricky objective for an incubus. He can’t hide his looks or his coveted spell weaving skills, but he’s learned to mask his true intentions. As an unwilling pawn of the tyrannical Hades family, he stays alive by keeping one step ahead of his masters.
Now he’s been assigned to watch over a visitor from the Overworld—one who’s definitely hiding something. And with her unholy talent for triggering chaos and catastrophe, his job just keeps getting more perilous. Clearly, she’ll never survive this world.
The thing is, he’s no longer sure he can survive it either.
EXCERPT:
As she stepped up to the last rack of shelves, she realized she hadn’t quite reached the end of the room. Tucked beyond the last shelf was another door—solid steel with no visible handle or lock. A web of magic crisscrossed the metal and complex runes filled four overlapping circles that shifted in a spiraling pattern.
She raised her fingers, keeping a safe several inches between her skin and the steel, and traced a glowing circle. That. She’d never seen anything quite like that before, but she knew it would react to touch. How it would react was another matter.
Intrigued, she leaned in closer, peering intently at the weaving’s underlayers as she tried to work out what it did.
“Don’t touch that.”
Lyre’s voice shattered the silence right behind her. A squeak of fright escaped her as she jerked backward from the door. But, with her sudden movement, her hand went the wrong way. And her fingers, already so close to the door, slapped against the metal.
She cringed in terror, fully expecting the door to explode or her bones to melt or her skull to burst open. Nothing happened—until she tried to pull her hand away.
It was stuck.
She yanked on her hand, but it was fused to the metal as though her skin had been superglued in place.
“I told you not to touch it.”
She shot a glare at Lyre, standing two paces away. “I wouldn’t have touched it if you hadn’t startled me!”
He tucked his binder under his arm and shoved his hands in his pockets. “Why would you touch anything in here without permission?”
“I told you—” She bit off the words. “Unkey the spell.”
“Hmm.” He rocked back on his heels and a downright evil little smirk curved his lips. “Not sure I know how.”
“What?”
“That lovely bit of work predates me. It’s pretty complicated. Since you fancy yourself a spell expert, if you look here, you’ll see—”
He started to point, and she had no idea why, but she flinched back as though he might hit her. Her elbow bumped the door—and got stuck too.
Lyre’s hand paused. “Now look what you did.”
“I didn’t—you—get me off this!”
“As I was saying, you can see here that the weaving amalgamates anything that touches it, so it’s embedded into your skin now—”
“Get me off this door!” She jerked helplessly, her immobilized wrist and elbow twisting awkwardly.
“Well, I could pull you off, but you might lose some skin. Though, since the weaving is spreading into your flesh the longer you stand there, you might leave more than skin behind.”
Her heart kicked up to a full gallop from her growing terror. He, however, seemed perfectly calm. Amused, in fact. Humor danced in his amber eyes, softening the color to something closer to buttery gold.
He was laughing at her.
“Oh.” His eyebrows rose. “That’s quite the scowl.”
She gritted her teeth. “Get. Me. Off.”
Those irresistible lips curved up and her stomach dropped to her feet. The air heated. Why was she suddenly kind of dizzy? Shadows slid through his eyes, dimming the amber to shimmering bronze.
“Get you off?” he repeated, and his tones were all purring honey, warm and deep and sensual. “With pleasure.”
A hot blush swooped through her cheeks as she realized what she’d said. “I—I didn’t mean—I was—”
In a panic, she lurched away from him—right into the spelled door.

Author Bio: Annette Marie is the author of the Amazon best-selling Steel & Stone series, which includes Goodreads Choice Award nominee Yield the Night, and fantasy trilogy Red Winter. Her first love is fantasy, but fast- paced urban fantasy and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it's not quite that bad) with her comparatively sensible husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar. When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.

Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi // Discovery and Rant

This post contains spoilers from the original Shatter Me trilogy, don't read on if you haven't read these books (but it probably won't contain many because I suck at remembering details about books which I've read ages ago).

I know I know, the news that Restore Me is actually going to be a book is months old, but I just found out. And in case you're super slow on book news like me, you can find the original post on Entertainment Weekly right here.

MORE SHATTER ME BOOKS???!!!

Am I excited? Oh, definitely. Just like Tahereh Mafi, I'm in need of a refresher (two years since I read Ignite Me). I quote, "Juliette's story has only just begun", and I can't wait to see where Tahereh Mafi takes Juliette. Main differences from the start of the Shatter Me trilogy (forgive me, I'm racking my brain to recall even the tiniest of details. In case you haven't figured it out yet, I SUCK at knowing things about books, it's so frustrating!):

1. Juliette isn't imprisoned
2. She has Warner by her side (YAY)
3. She's had *a bit* of a chance to discover herself

Okay, I'm going to cut off this post before I start embarrassing myself by remembering things wrong (even though my lack of remembering things is already killing me), but the general idea is that there are more Shatter Me books coming, THREE, and I'm ecstatic.

To all of you who have read Shatter Me, how do you feel about this news?

Review: Rituals by Kelley Armstrong

Rituals (Cainsville #5) by Kelley Armstrong
Publisher: Sphere
Goodreads Summary: The fifth book and the exciting conclusion to bestselling author Kelley Armstrong's "impossible-to-put-down" Cainsville series, in which she mixes hard-hitting crime writing with phenomenal world-building to create a brand of fiction all her own.

When Olivia Taylor-Jones found out she was not actually the adopted child of a privileged Chicago family but of a notorious pair of convicted serial killers, her life exploded. Running from the fall-out, she found a refuge in the secluded but oddly welcoming town of Cainsville, Illinois, but she couldn't resist trying to dig out the truth about her birth parents' crimes. She began working with Gabriel Walsh, a fiendishly successful criminal lawyer who also had links to the town; their investigation soon revealed Celtic mysteries at work in Cainsville, and also entangled Olivia in a tense love triangle with the calculating Gabriel and her charming biker boyfriend, Ricky. Worse, troubling visions revealed to Olivia that the three of them were reenacting an ancient drama pitting the elders of Cainsville against the mysterious Huntsmen with Olivia as the prize.

In the series' fifth and final novel, not only does Gabriel's drug addict mother, who he thought was dead, make a surprise reappearance, but Kelley Armstrong delivers a final scary and surprising knock-out twist. It turns out a third supernatural force has been at work all along, a dark and malevolent entity that has had its eye on Olivia since she was a baby and wants to win at any cost.
Rating: 5 Stars
Review:
Olivia Taylor-Jones is running out of time. She must choose a side before darkness reigns over everything. But is there a third choice for her to make? In Rituals, all your previously unanswered questions will be brought into the spotlight, their answers revealed as you join Liv on her journey...

In Rituals, Olivia, Ricky and Gabriel must face their toughest challenges yet, both individually and as a team. As they fight to defy history and write a happy ending for themselves, a new enemy will slither out from the shadows and into their path, threatening to destroy everything they have worked so hard for. They must redefine their relationships and become better people in order to stay together and not be torn apart by the rocky road.

I love all the different cultures discussed in this book! While they aren't much, I enjoyed the mention of Greek, Scottish and Gaelic lore as well as Welsh of course. Rituals is filled with mythology and culture. Helia and Alexios are super cute, I'm so glad they made it into this book, their ending is a perfect finale. Gabriel's character arc is beautiful and well written.

Rituals in three words? Conflict. Adventure. Love. Olivia gets to explore a new ability, we get a strange new enemy which I kind of like despite its pure evilness. All the characters seem to be super sassy towards their enemies, especially Olivia, and it's so amusing. Kelley Armstrong has really amped up the drama and intrigue for this final Cainsville book. Everything comes to a close as the cycle of Matilda, Gwynn and Arawn is finally completed correctly.

From USA Today bestselling author Catherine Bruns comes the next deadly delicious Carrie Jorgenson adventure in paradise...

Carrie Jorgenson is living the dream in Hawaii. She has a steady job as a waitress at the Loco Moco Café, a hot new love interest in her manager, and the curtain’s about to rise on her role in a local theater production. But when she's asked to deliver food to a guest at the Aloha Lagoon resort—who then drops dead!—her dreams quickly become the stuff of nightmares.

World renowned food critic Randolph Cremshaw has no shortage of enemies. He's rude, patronizing, and famous for his one-star reviews. After the coffee Carrie delivers is discovered to have been poisoned, she and the café quickly rise to the top of the suspects list. A jealous co-worker, thefts at the restaurant, and a performance that threatens to blow up in Carrie's face only make things worse. With an already full plate, Carrie is also forced into making a decision that may change everything for her. But this all pales in comparison when she comes face to face with Randolph's killer and what might be the final curtain call…of her life.

Blog Tour: The Soul Guide Series by Kelly Stock (Giveaway)

Secrets and Souls
Prequel to The Soul Guide by Kelly Stock
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Set forty years before The Soul Guide, this is a story of Bertram and Mellissa…

"You think I don't know that you’re keeping secrets from me? I am not the only liar here..."

The last thing Bertram expected after his grandfather’s death was to find himself the owner of Clayhill Manor, a decrepit mansion with little going for it other than musty rooms filled with moth-eaten furniture and mice. But at least he gets to maintain the solitary life he’s used to. That is, until red-headed beauty, Mellissa, walks into his home and changes his life forever.

With one touch of her hand, Bertram finds himself part of world he never knew existed. Where he is the Caretaker, and Mellissa the Soul Guide. Where doors appear out of nowhere and he’s the only one who can see them.

Together they must face a strange new world hidden just beneath the surface. A world which contains the pure of soul and malevolent creatures that lurk in the dark.

But Mellissa holds secrets within her, secrets that hurt her heart. With a past that she’s unwilling to share with a man who is falling in love with her, can they put their feelings aside and fulfil their roles or will her secrets tear them apart?

Apart they are weak, together they are stronger, and the Mephisto are always watching.

Reviews:

I've just finished the soul guide and I'm feeling very impatient for book 2! This is a great fantasy read, intriguing, with characters you really want to know more about! It's hard to believe this is the
author’s first novel, there's so much detail and depth to the characters and story. Well worth a read.”

Her vivid imagination and the way she describes every detail enables you to picture in your mind being there with Sybil on this spiritual journey. It only took me two days to read and I can't wait for the next instalment to see what happens next.”

This book, well written and with a great story line, had me hooked from the start and I can't wait for the next one in the series.”

The Soul Guide is a unique, fast-paced, beautifully-written book. Immediately it sucked me in, and it was hard to put down. Tortured Souls
The Soul Guide Series
Book 2
Releases
October 21st!
Still reeling from the secrets revealed within the Veil, Sybil finds herself getting more than she'd ever bargained for. Having to manage her new gifts is hard enough let alone having to cope with the barrage of memories that aren't even her own.

Could becoming the Soul Guide be the biggest mistake of Sybil's life or her bravest decision yet? She couldn't tell you, to busy dealing with the responsibility that her new role brings and avoiding the growing residents of Clayhill to find out.

And yet, hiding away isn't an option.

With the arrival of terrified young Estelle, Sybil is forced to face reality and become the warrior she was destined to be. There are far worst things happening beyond the safety of Clayhill and she doesn't have the option of turning a blind eye, especially when the 'worst things' involve her own beloved dad.

With Estelle's revelations, action must be taken. Can the unlikely group work together to save the children locked away in the depths of the Masters home or will the Mephisto succeed in tearing them apart? Read book two of The Soul Guide series to find out.

In Tortured Souls, alliances are made, friendships are forged, hearts are broken and the battle of light versus dark has truly begun.

Born and bred in London, UK, Kelly is a 38 year-old multitasking mum, wife, colleague, friend, daughter, sister and lastly, but by no means least, writer.

Her love of writing started when she began her Creative Writing degree at North London University in 1999. She hasn’t always wanted to be a writer, her first job of choice was a Vet, but that dream died when she realized she was allergic to most, small, furry animals. But, she has always loved to read, and that’s where her passion for writing began.

After finishing her
degree in 2002, she didn’t put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, until thirteen years later. Life, in all its wonderful glory got in the way. Then when her youngest went to school full-time she had precious time on her hands. It was during this time that Bertram, Sybil, and Alec were conceived and her first novel, The Soul Guide was born.

In her spare time you can find Kelly, reading, bringing up her kids the best way she knows how, and trying desperately not to make a fool of herself on social media.
