Review: The Calling by Kelley Armstrong

The Calling (Darkness Rising #2) by Kelley Armstrong
Publisher: Harper
Goodreads Summary:Maya Delaney's paw-print birthmark is the mark of what she truly is -a skin-walker. She can run faster, climb higher, and see better than nearly everyone else. Experiencing intense connections with the animals that roam the woods outside her home, Maya knows it's only a matter of time before she's able to Shift and become one of them. And she believes there may be others in her small town with surprising talents.

Now Maya and her friends have been forced to flee from their homes during a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set. Then they're kidnapped, and after a chilling helicopter crash, they find themselves in the Vancouver Island wilderness with nothing but their extraordinary abilities to help them get back home.

In THE CALLING, the sizzling second book in the Darkness Rising trilogy, New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong pumps up the romance, danger, and suspense that left readers of THE GATHERING clamoring for more.
Rating: 5+ Stars
Review: Wow. The Calling was amazing. So beautiful. So many sacrifices though Kelley Armstrong seemed to deliberately numb them with her absolutely brilliant words, and with Maya's beautiful POV. Rafe, Maya and Daniel take Centerstage in The Calling. The story continues from The Gathering, not failing to muss any details. They are tricked and manipulated, and barely survive. But it's the characters that are truly wonderful. They are all unique  and play a big part in their own way. Kelley Armstrong- what an author.

Rating: 5+ Stars
Review: Wow. I associate brilliant, awesome, amazing and fabulous with True Calling right away. What a good book. Ariana Skyee and Cal Remus are complete opposites, yet still attracted. I especially liked that good and evil were equally matched. An Interesting and sustaining read. It all ended too soon. I read the last paragraph, like I sometimes do, before I started reading. Wow. Powerful stuff.

Review: Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

 Title: Bitterblue (Graceling Realm #3)
Author: Kristin Cashore
Summary: Eight years have passed since the young Princess Bitterblue, and her country, were saved from the vicious King Leck. Now Bitterblue is the queen of Monsea, and her land is at peace.

But the influence of her father, a violent psychopath with mind-altering abilities, lives on. Her advisers, who have run the country on her behalf since Leck's death, believe in a forward-thinking plan: to pardon all of those who committed terrible acts during Leck's reign; and to forget every dark event that ever happened. Monsea's past has become shrouded in mystery, and it's only when Bitterblue begins sneaking out of her castle - curious, disguised and alone - to walk the streets of her own city, that she begins to realise the truth. Her kingdom has been under the thirty-five-year long spell of a madman, and now their only chance to move forward is to revisit the past.

Whatever that past holds.

Two thieves, who have sworn only to steal what has already been stolen, change her life forever. They hold a key to the truth of Leck's reign. And one of them, who possesses an unidentified Grace, may also hold a key to her heart . . .

Review: Amazing. Another epic fantasy novel. But I was a little disappointed. A lengthy novel, I expected Bitterblue to include all the characters form Graceling and Fire. It kind of dragged. And some of them barely got a mention. Bitterblue was the main focus, which I liked and didn't like. But Bitterblue in general as a great book. I just thought it would be different. I did, very much, enjoy Bitterblue. Graceling is a great series, and definitely worth reading. I also recommend reading Bitterblue. I didn't love it, but ti was great I certainly hope Kristin Cashore continues the series.

Recommended for: Fans of mystery, and tales of queens.

~Thanks to the author for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review~

Brilliant. What an exciting book. Ginger deserved her happy ending. The One Thing, told from Ginger and Caspian's view (later in the book) was about Ginger's hard life. Ginger's POV was interesting. Caspian's POV was amazing. I actually didn't really mind that Quinn and Chase from The last Thing were in the background- The One Thing was an interesting and sustaining read, and I certainly didn't get bored of reading it at all. Hollywood is such an interesting topic, and Briana Gaitan tells it all fabulously. I'm certain the next book will be great! Amazing, just fantastic.

Review: Never fade by Alexandra Bracken

Title: Never Fade (The Darkest Minds#2)
Author: Alexandra Bracken
Summary: Ruby never asked for the abilities that almost cost her her life. Now she must call upon them on a daily basis, leading dangerous missions to bring down a corrupt government and breaking into the minds of her enemies. Other kids in the Children’s League call Ruby “Leader”, but she knows what she really is: a monster.

When Ruby is entrusted with an explosive secret, she must embark on her most dangerous mission yet: leaving the Children’s League behind. Crucial information about the disease that killed most of America’s children—and turned Ruby and the others who lived into feared and hated outcasts—has survived every attempt to destroy it. But the truth is only saved in one place: a flashdrive in the hands of Liam Stewart, the boy Ruby once believed was her future—and who now wouldn’t recognize her.

As Ruby sets out across a desperate, lawless country to find Liam—and answers about the catastrophe that has ripped both her life and America apart—she is torn between old friends and the promise she made to serve the League. Ruby will do anything to protect the people she loves. But what if winning the war means losing herself?
Review:  Amazing. Ruby- I never forgave what she did in The darkest Minds. It was hard to forgive her after Never fade, but I finally did. Never Fade was just Brilliant. Magic. Liam wasn't a bi part of Never Fade, and when he was he started off not himself. Her eventually changed back to the Liam from The Darkest Minds. I couldn't stop reading, no matter how much I loved/ hated Never Fade. It was too addicting. I was entangled in it/. I hope In The Afterlight will be even better. Ruby is so plagued with choices to make, with deadly consequences. I didn't realise this till I was well into Never Fade. The ending was a little disappointing. A little too cliffhanger like. But just enough. Never Fade is certainly a good book.

Review: Fire by Kristin Cashore

Title: Fire (Graceling Realm #2)
Author: Kristin Cashore
Summary: It is not a peaceful time in the Dells. The young King Nash clings to his throne while rebel lords in the north and south build armies to unseat him. The mountains and forests are filled with spies and thieves and lawless men.

This is where Fire lives. With a wild, irresistible appearance and hair the color of flame, Fire is the last remaining human monster. Equally hated and adored, she had the unique ability to control minds, but she guards her power, unwilling to steal the secrets of innocent people. Especially when she has so many of her own.

Then Prince Brigan comes to bring her to King City, The royal family needs her help to uncover the plot against the king. Far away from home, Fire begins to realize there's more to her power than she ever dreamed. Her power could save the kingdom.

If only she weren't afraid of becoming the monster her father was.

Review: Stunning. When I first heard that Fire wasn't about Katsa and Po, I was disappointed.  But I grew to like the new characters. Fire is an intelligent girl, and Brigan a great commander. Their story had to be loved. Wow. Kristin Cashore has created another brilliant tale. Fire is so emotional, so sad,  yet so brilliant and amazing. Fire herself is also beautiful and brilliant,  as I said before. Her world was unknown to the world of graceling,  but it is so different yet so similar. Bitterblue,  the next book, well, we already know about Princess Bitterblue, from Graceling, I just hope that Fire will be part of that world, for Katsa was not a part of Fire. Incredible, intoxicating and moving are 3 words to describe Fire. Wow.  Kristin Cashore is a must read.

Review: Graceling by Kristin Cashore

 Title: Graceling (Graceling Realm #1)
Author: Kristin Cashore
Summary: Katsa has been able to kill a man with her bare hands since she was eight - she's a Graceling, one of the rare people in her land born with an extreme skill. As niece of the king, she should be able to live a life of privilege, but Graced as she is with killing, she is forced to work as the king's thug.

When she first meets Prince Po, Graced with combat skills, Katsa has no hint of how her life is about to change.

She never expects to become Po's friend.

She never expects to learn a new truth about her own Grace - or about a terrible secret that lies hidden far away...

Review: Stunning. Graceling is more than fantasy Much more. Graceling- better than fantasy. WOW another powerful tale. Thos amazing authors have done it again! So many good books in a row. Katsa is a brilliant heroine, written beautifully. The ending broke my heart (just a little) though. It was different from Allegiant. A great fantasy read.

Review: The Gathering by Kelley Armstong

The Gathering (Darkness Rising #1) by Kelley Armstrong
Publisher: Harper
Goodreads Summary: Sixteen-year-old Maya is just an ordinary teen in an ordinary town. Sure, she doesn't know much about her background - the only thing she really has to cling to is an odd paw-print birthmark on her hip - but she never really put much thought into who her parents were or how she ended up with her adopted parents in this tiny medical-research community on Vancouver Island.

Until now.

Strange things have been happening in this claustrophobic town - from the mountain lions that have been approaching Maya to her best friend's hidden talent for "feeling" out people and situations, to the sexy new bad boy who makes Maya feel...different. Combine that with a few unexplained deaths and a mystery involving Maya's biological parents and it's easy to suspect that this town might have more than its share of skeletons in its closet.

In The GatheringNew York Times best-selling author Kelley Armstrong brings all the supernatural thrills from her wildly successful Darkest Powers series to Darkness Rising, her scorching hot new trilogy.
Rating: 5+ Stars
Review: Beautiful. Kelley Armstrong writes brilliantly. Intoxicating. What a brilliant book. I've been waiting for this for quite a while now, and finally reading it- it's amazing. It definitely isn't disappointing. I loved The Gathering! UR was a great read, and I didn't dislike any part of it. I love it all. All the characters, the scenes, the parts... Fabulous. An excellent tale. WOW.

Review: The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey

Title: The Infinite Sea (The 5th Wave #2)
Author: Rick Yancey
Summary: How do you rid the Earth of seven billion humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.

Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race.

Cassie and her friends haven’t seen the depths to which the Others will sink, nor have the Others seen the heights to which humanity will rise, in the ultimate battle between life and death, hope and despair, love and hate.
Review: Wow. I didn't appreciate how brilliant The Infinite Sea was at the start- at first, I didn't like it at all. I hated Book one (Part one) of The Infinite Sea, but I really liked Book Two (Part two). Fabulous. So poetic and beautiful. But also very sad. I'm so excited for book three! Can't wait to see how good it will be. I really loved Marika and Cassie's POV, Marika was such a big part of The Infinite Sea. I didn't hate Vosch. I thought he was poetic. But evil, certainly. He is a special kind of character. Cassie though, I have an on-off relationship with. Sometimes I love her, sometimes hate her. A great book, very inspiring.

Brilliant. Briana Gaitan tells the beautiful tale of a girl blamed for the death of her boyfriend, an incident she doesn't remember. That Girl- Quinn Bardot. She leaves to Hollywood, where she moves in with her cousin, Ginger Teague to excape the murderous looks. Chase Crowley. Movie Star. Player. Man Whore. They meet at a party Ginger forces her to go to. What happens after- just Hollywood. Addicting, This version of hollywood is so real it's easy to imagine it as The Hollywood In real life. The Last Thing isn't a typical love story. No Happily ever after. WOW.

The Iron Trial (Magisterium #1) by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare
Publisher: Scholastic Books

Not Callum Hunt. He wants to fail.

Now the Magisterium awaits him. It's a place that's both sensational and sinister, with dark ties to his past and a twisty path to his future.

The Iron Trial is just the beginning, for the biggest test is still to come . . .
Rating: 5 Stars
Review: Magic. What a great book! I love how Holly Black and Cassie Clare decided to defy standard fantasy rules, and surprise readers with a different outcome! Callum Hunt is of the age when he should be trying bard to get into the Magisterium, but he;s not. Warned that it's a dark and terrible place, he tried hard to fail The Iron trial, the entry test. but he can't fail enough, and he gets in. from there, he has to be very careful.. because his choices have consequences, that could be disastrous... i haven't read Harry Potter, but I've heard a lot of it. From that, I don't think The iron Trial is anything like Harry Potter at all.Everything has similarities, but Harry potter and The Iron trial are pretty different. A great read, full of mischief. Fantastic characters. I really enjoyed it for sure. The Iron Trial was an interesting book, and it never got boring- there was always something happening. The Iron trial- Fantasy with action. A great mix. Wow.
